If Words Could Kill - 2023
Size: 20 in (h) x 15 in (w) x 15 in (d) $1,900.00 Hand build with clay slabs. I used non-fireable paint and then buffed it. I also used mixed materials. If Words Could Kill” is a sculpture that symbolizes the destructive power of verbal abuse. The sculpture depicts a figure expressing feelings of desperation and disappointment, while surrounded by knives that represent the harmful impact of abusive words. In contrast, a flower and its petals serve as an imaginary shield to protect against verbal abuse. The sculpture’s message is particularly relevant in today’s digital age, where social media has increased the frequency and intensity of verbal abuse. Unfortunately, younger generations may perceive this behavior as the norm, which can cause lasting emotional scars. Overall, “If Words Could Kill” serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of treating others with kindness and respect, and the devastating impact of verbal abuse. |
Freedom- 2010
Hand build with coils of clay and then I carved it. I also used mixed materials. Freedom results from deep fear, revelation, and the start of new adventures. It is a circumstance that will shape me and my children as we navigate the waters of single motherhood. It's an exciting time with new opportunities that could change in any direction. I wanted to show a sculpture of a strong woman with a slight smile on her face. She represents someone who is assertive and has a plan. Her large feet symbolize grounding. The lines on her dress represent her good and bad decisions along the way. They also represent the knowledge and experience gained along those paths. The boat is the vessel through which she travels and the final destination for her. The calm blue waters represent the hope that everything will go as planned. Finally, the two birds represent the innocence and playfulness of my children. Private Collection |

Dreaming of Spring - 2008
Hand built with coils of clay and
then I carved it.
We found out I was pregnant in February 2002. That was the happiest day for us since I began infertility treatments. This sculpture appeared in my dreams after a particularly sad few days. I experienced a miscarriage. Dreaming of spring was the hope that in spring, we would be surprised once more with the wonderful news of a new life growing inside of me. The flowers and plants represent the growth and start of new life, and the bird represents the child that could have been. Writing this brought tears to my eyes as I recalled my deep sadness. After changing my hectic lifestyle and relocating from Florida to Colorado, I became pregnant again in 2005.

Emptiness - 2010
Hand built with coils of clay and
then I carved it.
The headless woman with an empty uterus represents a time of frustration, sadness, and unpleasant infertility treatments. The circles represent the countless cycles a woman goes through, as well as the never-ending disappointments. Today, I place a heart-shaped rock in the empty uterus to symbolize the joy of finally having two children.
